When it comes to bespoke staircases, structural design is only part of the story.

The finish — that final surface treatment — is where metal truly comes to life. It’s in this final layer that character is revealed, tone is set, and personality emerges.

At our workshop, we don’t just build staircases — we sculpt practical works of art. One of the most powerful ways we do that is through specialist metal finishing and patination.

Beyond Finished: Why Finishing Matters

A staircase can be more than a structural necessity — it can be a centrepiece, a conversation starter, a work of art. The way a metal surface is treated makes a dramatic difference to its visual and tactile appeal. A standard brushed or powder-coated finish has its place, but it doesn’t tell a story. That’s where our advanced, artisan-led finishing techniques step in.

Chemical Patination

We use specialist chemical solutions - as well as heating and texturing - to coax unique tones, textures and hues from the raw metal itself. This is not paint or coating; it’s a chemical reaction with the surface of the metal, giving each piece a finish that is living, richly layered and entirely one-of-a-kind.

Whether it’s deep bronze tones on brass, smoky blue blacks on steel, or verdigris on copper, each result is the product of meticulous experimentation and skilled application. No two finishes are ever identical — which is exactly the point.

Hand-Finished for Depth and Detail

As the chemical patina is applied, the unexplainable human touch takes over - spraying, dabbing, brushing, burnishing and heating the surfaces to achieve just the right tone and variation required. This is where years of experience matter: knowing when to stop, when to push further, and how to elevate each piece into something truly special.

The result is a finish that feels alive — rich with texture, layered with subtle variation, and full of character. It’s these details that set a luxury product apart, and it’s what makes our staircases feel crafted, not manufactured.

Designed to Last — and Evolve

Our patinas aren’t just beautiful, they’re versatile. We can seal (or even not seal) our finishes using waxes or lacquers, depending on the application and desired outcome. Many of our finishes are designed to evolve gently over time — not degrade, but develop a softer, more organic character with use and age, just like leather or timber.

A Signature Finish for Every Project

Whether you want something bold and sculptural or subtle and refined, our finishing options give you the freedom to express a unique vision. We can tailor patinas to match interior palettes, complement other materials, or bring contrast to minimalist spaces.

We work closely with architects, interior designers and homeowners to ensure each finish aligns with the creative intent of the space — and reflects the craftsmanship and care that goes into every staircase we make.
